Real wedding: Skye and Peter’s Sunken Garden wedding

Skye and Peter were married at the lovely Morning Star Estate, in the sunken garden, on Friday 14 March 2014, followed by their reception in the estate’s dining room.

Functioning Together coordinated Skye and Peter’s wedding day, allowing them to enjoy themselves on their special day.

Peter and the boys made themselves very useful before the ceremony by preparing and placing the lovely rose petal cones made by Peter’s mother on the chairs.

Real wedding: Sian and Ryan’s Estate wedding

Sian and Ryan were married in the gorgeous sunken garden at Morning Star Estate on Saturday 15 February 2014, followed by their reception in the estate’s magical Ballroom.

Functioning Together provided Wedding Day Coordination for Sian and Ryan, which included working with the lovely Lauren from Poppy Culture to create beautiful surroundings for their ceremony and reception.

Centrepiece & Urn

The girls stayed at Quest Frankston on the Bay the night before the wedding, where a friend styled their hair and makeup was applied by Phoebe Taylor.

Sian and Ryan were married by Emma Tomlinson, who delivered a beautiful ceremony. They had four Bridesmaids and four Groomsmen, and the whole bridal party looked absolutely stunning.

Ceremony

Regnier Cakes made their gorgeous three tiered Belgian chocolate cake with buttercream icing, decorated with fresh flowers.

Sian & Ryan's cake

DJ Masters provided the music and MC, Balwyn Events supplied the chair covers and aisle carpet, DJ PeterD set up the photo booth lighting, and the official photos and video were provided by T-One Image.

The stunning flowers were arranged by Poppy Culture, including a photo booth and iron hanging arrangement.

An insight to D-I-Y Weddings

Emily and Michael held their Do-It-Yourself wedding at the Briars on 21 December 2013. After their gorgeous wedding, Emily very kindly answered some questions about the D-I-Y process, which I’m sure will be of great assistance to anyone considering taking on the same role for their wedding.

Having a D-I-Y wedding is an enormous task. What elements of your wedding did you do yourself?

Crafty Additions:

–           Save the Dates/Invitations were designed together with my Sister in Law who runs GCS Creative Occasions.

–           85metres of Bunting – cut out by myself, and my Mother in Law helped me with the sewing

–           Table Cloth to match Bunting – also sewed by my Mother in Law

–           Candle Bags – Designed by myself and made by my sister in law

–           Lolly Boxes – Labels designed with my Sister in Law, and stuck onto each box!

–           All the Lolly Table and Dessert Table Labels

–           Direction Signs were made by my Husband

–           GuestBook – Designed by us

I also had to organise the Food, Alcohol, Desserts, Waiters, Glasses, Chairs, Hay Bales, Games, and Mr Whippy.

1

Did you have much help?

Along the way my Sister in Law helped me with all the multimedia items (things that needed to be printed) – my ideas translated to her, then she would bring them to life! My Mother in Law helped a lot with the sewing. I otherwise slowly ticked things of my list. Family were the most help when needed, or when items needed to be purchased.

Where did you get your ideas from?

Pinterest, Wedding Forums and Magazines is where I got most of my ideas from. I would see something on one site and combine a couple of ideas together so it was exactly what I was after. As the wedding was in an old Rustic Barn, I was constantly searching shops and websites for ideas and items that would make the venue more amazing.

2

How long did it take?

I booked the Venue in the January and was married in the December. As it was a D-I-Y Wedding only 4 days before Christmas, I had to book the major wedding things (Celebrant, Musician, Food, Entertainment, and Photography) very early on to secure my spot! Once these things were sorted it allowed me to search for other ideas and start collecting!

Did it take longer than you expected?

I had a good 11 months of planning and collecting, I had a timeline and I knew what had to be done when.

Did you enjoy doing everything yourself?

I loved having my ideas and relaying them to someone that could help me and then seeing the final product. I am a very visual person, so by having only photos and measurements of the venue it was sometimes difficult to see how it would all work. In saying that, it was absolutely fantastic to know that we had an empty shell and we created a venue to be something that was all about my husband and I.

57

Was the end result what you had envisioned?

Exactly how I envisioned. Everything worked together perfectly. The only criticism may be that due to it being cocktail, some people may not have had enough food. Although there was plenty to go around it would have just been the position the food was in at the time. The place looked amazing during the ceremony and during the reception. The gardens were wonderfully set up around the Barn. The Games worked well set up on the grass. The Hay Bales were perfect seating for everyone. The musician throughout the night topped it off making it amazing!

8

Do you feel your family and friends appreciated the time and effort that went into making everything?

Definitely, every person that attended has contacted either my husband or myself after the wedding and said what an amazing time they had. The place was perfect for a wedding and it was perfectly suited to Michael and I.

If you had your time over, would you do it again?

If I had my time again, nothing would change! We had the most perfect day from start to finish.

When it came to setting up and decorating your ceremony and reception (which were both held in the same venue), did you need any extra help?

The entire day prior to the wedding we had A LOT of hands on deck. We had friends and family and (a marvellous wedding coordinator) help us hang items, layout chairs, carry alcohol, organise set up for Reception, unpack numerous car loads of items. It was an all-day affair with deliveries being dropped off. It took nearly a total of 7 or so hours of setting up to get it workable for the next day deliveries and for the ceremony. The Reception we tried to make as little ‘set up’ as possible, and a few items were having to be moved after the ceremony. With the help of my 3 Waiters/Bar Staff and wedding coordinator, they were able to deliver a perfect Reception space.

Without the extra help on either days, the wedding would not have been possible. Without the coordination on the wedding day AND the timeline of pack up with suppliers the following day, the day would have been completely hectic and stressful. With everyone’s input and assistance, it went to plan.

A huge thank you goes to Emily for taking the time to share her thoughts with me! I thoroughly enjoyed helping Emily and Michael create their vision and I hope Emily’s insights help anyone considering a DIY wedding.

Ideas for Valentine’s Day

Arguably the most romantic day of the year, there are so many ways to show your Valentine how much you care about them, and they don’t all have to be expensive.

Hand written card
Sometimes the simplest gifts are the most heartfelt. Try writing your own card, with your own words that come from the heart.

Love notes
Leave your other half cute little love notes around the house.

Favourite restaurant
Take your loved one to their favourite restaurant for a romantic dinner. You could build on this further by giving them a gift during dinner, or arranging for a special dessert to be served, or for their favourite song to be played for them.

Love image

Living gift
If you give your partner a miniature rose plant, you can plant it together and have a living symbol of your love for each other.

Adventure
Go on an adventure together, with a romantic twist, such as ballooning with a picnic and champagne.

Traditional
Guys if you like to keep things simple, you can’t go wrong with lingerie, chocolates or flowers.

Personal vouchers
Give your partner a book of vouchers they can use over the next 12 months, until the next Valentine’s Day. Who wouldn’t love having a foot massage, a week off doing the dishes, a car wash, or having a sleep in without having to get up to the babies/children!

Cooking class
If you both love cooking, go to a cooking class together.

Whatever you decide to do for your loved one on Valentines Day, try and find something you can enjoy together.

Beth and Cam were married by Danielle Binaisse at All Smiles Sorrento on Friday 6th December 2013, and somehow managed to pick the perfect time inbetween some very tumultuous weather! We were so lucky to have the sun shining on the Sorrento cliffside, which has the most stunning view on the peninsula.

Real Wedding: Three weddings in one year for the same bride!

Three weeks ago Sparkle contacted me to arrange her third wedding to Dan this year! This gorgeous couple from California initially eloped in June and followed that with a traditional wedding with their friends and family. On both these occasions they didn’t have their wedding rings, so after finally getting their rings, they decided to hold their third wedding while visiting Australia this week, where they could exchange their rings and personal vows to each other.

Not many brides have the opportunity to wear their wedding dress three times, and Sparkle’s dress was absolutely stunning (not to mention her shoes)!
IMG_4554At Sparkle’s request they wanted an intimate, low key, beach themed ceremony, and the Quest Frankston on the Bay (where they were staying) was the perfect location. The ceremony was held on the balcony, overlooking the bay, and Gail Cremen conducted the renewing of their vows. The roped beach jars were provided by Event Perfection.

The bride and groom followed the ceremony with some photos taken at the beach.
IMG_4571On their return Sparkle and Dan enjoyed a picnic in their room, which also had lovely bay views. They were initially having their picnic on the balcony where their ceremony was held, but in true Melbourne weather form, it was very chilly so they enjoyed their picnic indoors instead. The food was provided by Coffee Head and Sparkle and Dan thoroughly enjoyed it.
DSC00715It was an absolute pleasure to organise Sparkle and Dan’s wedding, which was lovely and intimate. I’m sure their memories of their wedding in Australia will be everlasting.

Proposal events

Popping the question has always been a special and important element of getting married, and it is becoming quite popular for the proposal to be an event in its own right!

A great example was when Dan proposed to Ellesse as a production put on by Matt & Jo at Fox FM (http://www.fox.com.au/shows/mattandjo/video/matt-jos-surprisal/). What a fantastic surprise for Ellesse, who had only just started working in the city and thought her boss was taking her to a client briefing! This proposal included numerous celebrities and even a Channel 7 news flash.

Dan & Ellese

The ideas for proposing are endless….

Imagine taking a walk through your local shopping area, continuously bumping into friends and family along the way, then discovering them all gathered together when you arrive at a set meeting point, where the big question is asked.

Or perhaps your partner puts a movie on to watch together, but instead of the movie, you are watching your family and friends put on a performance, leading into your own proposal.

Maybe you are walking along Southbank, stopping to watch the many talented buskers, only to be dragged by one of the performers into the centre where your partner has incorporated your proposal into one of their shows, and all of a sudden your family and friends appear in the crowd.

The ideas for creating a proposal event are endless!

Feature Venue – Eagle Ridge Weddings

It is easy to see why Eagle Ridge weddings are so popular. I met up with Katie Russo, Marketing Director and Lyn Deutrom, Event Sales Executive today and they are both so passionate about working for this premier Mornington Peninsula venue. I think it’s safe to say there is no other like it on the peninsula, with the romantic gazebo, stunning marble foyer and elegant ballroom.

Where else can you wow your guests with a spectacular fireworks display! What a beautiful way to accentuate the celebration of your wedding, with a perfect view from the verandas just outside the Ballroom.

Eagle Ridge

The variety of packages offered by Eagle Ridge is impressive. Lyn said ‘wedding dates are often selected on anniversaries, rather than just on weekends’, so it is great to see the Essentials package has been developed for mid week weddings. It is also a great option for those who are more cost conscious. ‘Brides and grooms are becoming more educated, and they know their options’ said Katie, and Eagle Ridge provides alternatives to suit individual’s needs.

The Eagle Ridge team have recently redeveloped their website, and it is well worth taking the time to have a look at what they have to offer at http://www.eagleridgeweddings.com.au.

Functioning Together is very excited to be exhibiting at the Eagle Ridge Weddings Tasting and Open Night on Friday the 18th of October 2013, commencing at 7pm.
